A fan proving switch can be used for a wide variety of applications including zone boosting or control, dryer boosting, radon fan alert, or attached garage exhaust. This switch activates a booster fan or indicator signal on local pressure (pressure at the control) with respect to (WRT) high pressure (such as the pressure in a supply duct) or low pressure (such as pressure in a return duct). Or both pressure taps can be used to sense the pressures on both sides of a fan. This can be particularly useful if the FPS10 is being used to indicate that a radon mitigation system has stopped running.
The FPS10 may be mounted in a horizontal or vertical position, but factory testing is performed with the switch in the vertical position. Mounting in the vertical positionis the preferred method. If mounted in the horizontal position, the minimum sensitivity may be higher than that specified.
The FPS10 is shipped with the adjustment at minimum .05" w.g. (W.C. (water column) or w.g. (water gauge - terms are interchangeable) is an indication of the pressure required to raise a column of water in inches. In metric terms, pressure is indicated in Pascals. .05" = 12.4 Pascals. In terms of the pressures created by a fan, these are good numbers.) To increase the pressure setting, use a screwdriver to screw down in a clockwise direction. Be careful not to unscrew the setting screw completely. It is sealed to maintain the pressure in the switch casing.
