Measuring the airflow through installed ducting is a challenge. This simple averaging airflow sensor can be inserted into a straight section of 4" diameter ducting and attached to a differential pressure manometer. The sensor comes with adapters to attach to 1/4" OD tubing. Both taps are connected to one channel of the manometer, providing the difference between the Total Pressure and the Static Pressure Pressure which equals the Velocity Pressure. With a quick calculation that can be converted to FPM and from there to CFM.
This is particularly useful in measuring the flow to balance an HRV or ERV or the airflow through a ventilation supply pipe into the return side of an air handler. The AFS can be left installed for an auditor, program monitor, or HERS rater to verify the performance.
